A Chess-Lover’s Engagament
I find myself driving far to photograph beautiful places in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love these little adventures, but it certainly takes time out of my week. Ever since moving to the area, I’ve been itching to photograph this sweet little park tucked away in a business center. This is certainly a hidden gem of San Ramon, as I’ve never seen another photographer here! It was simply the perfect backdrop for Matt and Ivy’s sweet engagement session!
The way Matt and Ivy talk to (and about!) each other is so revealing of their relationship. Sweet, genuine, and tender hearted. They were so much fun to hang out with and photograph, and I’m thrilled to be going out to Arizona to document their gorgeous February wedding!
In honor of these two cuties, here are some fun facts about the game of chess:
The phrase "Check-mate" in comes from the Persian phrase "Shah Mat," which means, “The king is dead.”
The first Chessboard with alternating light and dark squares appeared in Europe in 1090. Historians believe that the oldest form of the game was played in 3,000 BC! Wow! A game similar to checkers was played in Egypt in 1,400 BC. Chess as we know it today finds its origins from the 8th century Indian game called chaturanga.
The second book to be printed in the English language was on the subject of chess! In 1476 William Caxton published “The Game and Playe of Chesse”
The term “Rookie”, used to describe a new team member, is slang derived from the rook piece. The rook is generally the last piece to go out into action.
